Rules for the Submission, Review, and Publication of Scholarly Articles Submitted to the Journal “Bulletin of Ekaterinburg Theological Seminary”

The present rules govern the process of submission, review, and publication of scientific papers in the journal “Bulletin of Ekaterinburg Theological Seminary” of the Religious organization – Theological Educational Organization of Higher Education “Ekaterinburg Theological Seminary of Ekaterinburg Eparchy of the Russian Orthodox Church”.

 

1. General Provisions

1.1. “Bulletin of Ekaterinburg Theological Seminary” publishes academic articles covering a wide range of contemporary research in the humanities, including the fields of theology, philosophy, history, religious studies and philology.

1.2. Articles that have not been published previously and are not under consideration for publication by the editorial boards of other journals may be submitted for publication.

1.3. The length of an article should not exceed 80,000 characters (including spaces). The length is counted using the Word Count feature in MS Word and includes all footnotes as well as the bibliography, abstract, keywords, and information about the author.

1.4. The editorial board considers one material from one author per year, regardless of the acceptance or rejection of articles for publication in the Journal. The limitation does not apply to publications of sources, reviews and anniversary materials, as well as the articles ordered by the editorial board.

1.5. Article is published in the version submitted by the author. The editorial board reserves the right to make such editorial changes to the author’s original text that do not have a significant effect on the meaning.

1.6. By submitting an article for publication, the author, in accordance with Article 2 of Section 1286 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation, grants permission for the article to be printed in the Journal, including also permission for the electronic text of the article to be placed on the Internet on the Journal’s official website.

1.7. The author and the Ekaterinburg Theological Seminary conclude a license agreement for the publication of an article. Material for publication is transferred to the Journal on the basis of a non-exclusive license and the author retains the right to use one’s text after the publication of the article at his or her own discretion (see the License Agreement).

1.8. All materials for publication may be submitted by the author only in electronic format by means of a Special Electronic Form.

1.9. All other actions related to the publication process such as reporting on the results of reviewing the article and obtaining reviewers’ comments, and also a preliminary layout of the article are carried out via e-mail (vestnik-eds@ya.ru).

1.10. Arrangements for the publication of an article and its publication are free of charge. The editors do not charge any fees from the authors. Authors do not receive any royalties from the editorial staff of the Journal.

2. Checking with Plagiarism Search Engine

2.1. The article submitted is being checked for incorrect borrowings through the paid Anti-Plagiarism system. In case the article contains quotes from other authors’ works with no quotation marks it may serve the reason for refusal to publish the article.

3. Review Process for Scholarly Articles

3.1. All articles submitted to the Journal undergo a mandatory double blind peer review process, as deemed necessary by the editorial board. The approximate time-frame for the review process is up to 2 months.

3.2. Reviewers are nominated from recognized specialists in the scientific field the article concerned, reviewers should have several publications which are dated not earlier than 3 years and related to the same scientific topic as the article reviewed.

3.3. Based on the results of the review (or reviews) received, the editorial board either accepts the article for publication, returns it to the author for further corrections with the prospects for publication in the future, or rejects the article. Results of the review, together with a letter accepting the article, proposed corrections or changes, or an explanation of the decision to reject the article, are communicated to the author electronically via e-mail. At the request of the author, a physical copy of the review may also be sent via certified mail.

3.4. In case significantly conflicting reviews are received, the editorial board reserves the right to send the article for further review (or reviews) to a reviewer (or reviewers) of its choice.

3.5. In case further conflicting reviews are received even upon a second round of review, the editorial board reserves the right to reject the article for publication in the Journal.

3.6. In cases when the article has been declined for publication, the editorial board does not conduct any negotiations with the author.

3.7. Reviews are intended for internal purposes only. The names of reviewers are not revealed to the author.

3.8. Reviews of all articles submitted for publication are stored in the editorial office of the Theological Seminary in electronic and / or physical format for 5 (five) years. Upon request of the appropriate authorities, copies of reviews are forwarded by the editorial board to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.

4. Responsibilities of the Author of Scholarly Articles

4.1. The author guarantees that all submitted information in the article is true and authentic research and that the author has not engaged in plagiarism.

4.2. The author agrees that, if it becomes necessary, at a future date he will publish a retraction or submit corrections.

5. Rules for the Formatting and Publishing of Scholarly Articles

5.1. Requirements for an article’s manuscript and its design as well as the submission process are detailed in Appendix No. 1, attached to these Rules.
